The mountain dulcimer or Appalachian dulcimer is fretted diatonic instrument. Usually it is held on one’s lap and strummed, either the melody string or chords. It is relatively easy to learn to play, compared to other instruments such as a guitar. But the possibilities are endless and quite complex songs can be played on the dulcimer.
