Learn to Play the Dulcimer Classes

Our next set of free classes for beginning adult dulcimer players will be in June 2026 at the Fairwood Branch Library, Baton Rouge. We are planning two sessions — one will be on Monday nites from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm and the second series will be on Thursdays from 12:30 – – 1:30 pm. The classes are the same — pick either day and time (some folks come to both!).

The dates are: Monday nites: June 1, 8, 15 and 22

Thursday noons: June 4, 11, 18, 25

If you would like to learn how to play the dulcimer; come join us. The mountain dulcimer is easy to learn and to play and offers unlimited hours of enjoyment.

Pre-registration required to reserve a student dulcimer for the classes. Send us a message to be placed on the contact and class list.

Weekly Dulcimer Meetings

The club meets weekly for jams and meetings. Currently our club has two playing groups. Both meet at at the EBR Fairwood Branch Library. Red Stick Strummers meet on Thursdays from 10:30 am to noon. The main club meets on Saturday mornings from 10:30 – noon,

Disclaimer: It is important to note that the club does not meet if there is a scheduling conflict with the library (such as a voting weekend as the library is used as a ballot and voting location), other library conflicts or a club activity or conflict. Also, the club does not meet on holidays or threat of inclement weather. To keep abreast of schedule changes, we suggest joining the dulcimer association to receive such notifications, Message us for details.

Cajun Dulcimer Jam

Joe’s group no longer jams at the Acadian Cultural Center (501 Fisher Road, Lafayette, Louisiana) which is part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park. He’s taking a break from that location.

Joe’s group currently jams on Wednesdays in Opelousas at the St. Landry Visitor’s Center on I-49 at Exit 23. The jams are usually held from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. Again, check with Joe prior to heading out to make sure the jam is still on!!!
